Medicare Claims

imind psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) which is requried to provide a Medicare rebatable service.

Most sessions at imind – individual, family or group – are claimable through Medicare should you choose this option.   However, you will require a referral called a Mental Health Care Plan  from a GP, psychiatrist or pediatrician who assesses that you fit the criteria for a ‘mental health’ issue – like anxiety, depression, etc.  This will entitle you to claim a rebate per year of up to ten individual sessions and/or ten group therapy sessions.  Couples counselling is generally not claimable from Medicare unless the relationship problems are causing associated emotional or behavioral disorders such as anxiety or depression.

A Mental Health Care Plan should be completed by your referring practitioner prior to making your appointment. Generally, an extended appointment will be required with a GP to provide this.

When you attend for a session at imind, you will receive an invoice which you can take to any Medicare branch or download an App to claim your rebate qwhich will be sent to your nominated bank account.

Please contact us if you require additional information or clarification.

Some clients are concerned about the privacy of using Medicare and others have been charged an additional leverage on, for  example, life insurance policies after disclosing they have seen a psychologist or psychiatrist.
